RE: [boxer lovers] looking for a boxer in upstate ny

We got our girl from a backyard breeder almost 2 years ago.  I felt so horrible when I saw the condition she was in (unsocialized, parasite loaded, under weight) that we got her anyway. I have purchased (other breeds) from reputable breeders, rescued and fostered all breed for years and can state emphatically that Heidi (boxer) is an incredible dog!  All of her health has checked out exceptionally well.  She passed ALL of her obedience classes with flying colors, has earned her CGC and will test for the TDI on the 18th of this month to be an in-school therapy dog with special-needs children.  No matter where you get your baby, there are goods & bads.  Just be aware and move forward with knowledge to help you make your decision.

OK, for that price you are going to have a puppy mill dog, a backyard bred

dog (almost as bad)or a rescue, which will likely be an older dog. Breeders

of integrity generally charge more for their dogs, including whites, because

they are supporting their hobby and their animals. And I guarantee you, they

are still losing money.

As you have already experienced, you can either spend money now, or spend it

later. I have done both. I'll never buy a dog from anyone except a show

breeder, again. I may rescue one, but know that if you rescue, you are still

probably adopting a mill pup or a backyard bred. Neither have no more

integrity than akc papers and that is not much. believe me, the health

testing is valuable. It is not a guarantee but it is as close as you will

come. ALWAYS ask for the records!

I have a retired show boy and a girl who was intended as a brood bitch. She

is from excellent show lines. That is NOT guarantee. Sadly, she developed

epilepsy. Best lines cannot guarantee anything. All we can do, as breeders

is not breed the ones with problems.

So, you will have to choose. Well bred puppy, badly bred puppy, or be

willing to accept an unknown quality bred older dog. Whichever you choose,

none will be cheap. Dogs are expensive. To purchase, to feed and to

medicate. Once you accept that, it is all love<G>

We are looking for a boxer puppy, in the ny state area. I know that they can

be expensive. we just want a good family dog, not a show dog. I am looking

to not spend over $500 it is just to much. I do know they are not free or

cheep. I do know vet bills are a lot too and I am fully ready for it. our

last boxer just in vet bills was over $5000 just in the first year alone.

(but don't tell my husband). I do want to be conservitave in the cost,

because you never know the dog could be fine and than something shows up

down the road, and yes a good breeder will take the dog back. but once you

fall in love with a dog you would never give it a way just cause it needs

medical attention. I have looked at a few breeders & they want 800-2000 and

up. I don't want a puppy mill dog. I have had a boxer before, my husband has

had 3 or 4 before we meet. I feel that they are best for kids, my boys are

not young they are 8,10,13 years old. but every kid needs a dog. please if

you can think of someone that can help me that would be great. I was told

that if a breeder with show dogs, had a white puppy, they are usually sold

for around $200.However I did speak to a breeder and she wanted $800. for a

white puppy. and on the AKC boxer site it said that a wwhite boxer from a

good breeder should be any where from free to $200. (does any one know) I do

under stand that white boxers are usually with more medically conditions,

and I am fine with that either def or blind. there are special training

classes for them and I think it would be a great bonding experiance. I am

willing to go to nj, pa or ct.

thanks,

Lorraine
