Washington, DCOnce in a Blue... Lobster?

Blue Lobster

A rare blue lobster caught off the coast of Maryland is now headed for the National Aquarium, Washington, DC, rather than the seafood market! Capt. John Gourley brought in the cobalt crustacean with his normal catch to Martin Fish Co. in Ocean City, MD. According to the University of Maine Lobster Institute, the color is the result of a genetic defect that is a 1-in-2-million phenomenon. We hope to have this exceptional lobster, nicknamed Toby, on display in the National Marine Sanctuaries exhibit by July 4.

Thoughtful Choices

Our Choice:
The National Aquarium's Fishes department recently overhauled its cleaning supplies, switching to all eco-friendly cleaning products.
Your Choice:
Swap out your toxic chemicals for greener cleaning products. Here's a super-easy recipe for an all-purpose cleaner that's better for the environment AND your budget: Mix 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda (or 2 tsp. Borax) into 1/2 gallon (2 liters) water. Pour into a spray bottle and store.
