To all of you who answered my call for help, a great big Thank You! I have
read and filed all your replies and will study how each might help me with
my dear friend. I hope I might find a training class, but not sure there
are any in the area where I live. In the last few days my girl has
developed a problem with her gums and we have a vet appointment this
afternoon, so I will see if our vet knows of a training class and what he
recommends too. The Sense-Action harness sounds like a good idea.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with me.

Hi there Beth,
Kudos for rescuing this girl! I *totally* understand the frustration
of dealing with a fully grown, large dog who is not trained and who
pulls like crazy. I think we've all experienced that some time or
another.
I would recommend finding a reward-based training class in your area.
A basic obedience class will help you with all the issues you seem to
be having, and being shown these things can be a lot easier than just
reading it and wondering if you're doing it correctly.
I won't get into collars because that is bound to start arguments, but
training classes recommend you have at least a flat buckle collar.
In the meantime, The Sense-Ation harness has helped me and my dog a
TON. The pulling is minimized so you can concentrate on training, and
it's comfortable for the dog as well.
Dawn (who really isn't very active on the group, sadly)
