RE: [boxer lovers] for those who don't use heartworm preventative GRAPHIC

I did not watch this because I couldn't. here's why. When I was a child, heartworms were virtually unheard of. They were a relatively new phenomenon and were mostly in coastal areas. I lived in Tennessee. When my Irish Setter, Rocky, was 13, she started having trouble. We took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with heartworms. The map on the wall that showed affected areas just had red on the edges of the country and few sprinkles in the interior.

We were stunned. Then we were told there was a treatment. We were thrilled. Our beloved Rocky had a chance. It was agonizing. Even as a child, I knew Rocky was in pain. She went away for days to the vet for treatment and when she came home, she had to be kept in the house and kept quiet.

My poor Rocky was never the same. I watched this as a child and it has stayed with me all my life. Since I became an adult and bought my first dog, if I could afford nothing else, I ALWAYS had heartworm preventative for my dog. I could NEVER put another dog through that.

PLEASE. Don't allow this to happen to your animals. It will kill you a little bit, inside and you will never be the same. Especially with the knowledge that you could have prevented it for just a small amount of money. nothing is worth that. having a dog is not like buying a toy. It is like having a child. It is a lifetime responsibility. And part of that is the dedication to making sure, at the very least, your friend can breathe.

I cannot say this enough. DO NOT EVER stint on this med. If you cannot do it, don't get the dog. If you find yourself in a place where you cannot afford it, anymore, find a home or a friend to help with your dog. Heartworms are not iffy, anymore. They are a known and SO easy to prevent. It is completely irresponsible not to use these. Please.

Unbelievable! So glad I have always kept my babies on meds.
