[boxer lovers] Any Thoughts on Sudden Limping?

My vet is closed for the day, so I thought I'd get your input.
Last night Chancy (about 5-6 years old)seemed perfectly normal. We took him for his walk where he ran, jumped and chased his golf ball with gusto. A few hours later he went potty before bed. No problem. This morning he went out, ate his breakfast and then settled in for his morning nap. No issues at all. However when he got up from his nap, I noticed he was raising his left hind leg and then proceeded to limp as he walked. I examined his foot for thorns, cuts, or pebbles caught between his toes. Nothing, so I started looking at joints. Hip and knee appear fine. He seems to flex/extend fully. The joint between the foot and knee seems to be a bit swollen compared to the right leg. Not terribly so, but at this point I'm assuming this is the area that's bothering him. He's eating well, wants to play, isn't whining or crying, but he can't bear weight on that leg and had difficulty climbing the stairs.

I kind of wondered if he twisted it last night while jumping for his golf ball, but I would have thought he'd have felt it before today. I did give him an aspirin to help with pain and possibly inflammation and also applied an ice pack to both sides of that joint. I know that benedryl often helps for his allergic swellings (for bites and stings), but didn't know if it would help this sort of situation.

Since he's not really complaining, I'm just trying to keep him laying down so that he doesn't aggravate it and hopefully what swelling is there will subside.

Any thoughts? Similar situations?
