Re: [boxer lovers] Melanoma on 3 year old baby boxer

I am absolutely amazed at times how things happen. You write this and
Thursday night a friend from the local boxer club mentioned someone with
a Boxer with melanoma and mentioned a treatment and how well it was working!

Now. WE ARE NOT VETS. WE HAVE NO VET TRAINING. WE ARE JUST BOXER OWNERS.
That said .....

This is what I got from my friend:

I received pictures from J S yesterday that are very interesting. She
has an old boxer who was diagnosed with melanoma on her face. IT was in
a very bad place and the vet was concerned about removing it as he could
not get clean margins without going into the nose. Any way I had told
her about the Tagamet treatment and she called and then I had her
contact V K to get more exact information. To make a long story short
they have been treating her and it is going away. The vet(Dr T) is
amazed. The pictures she sent very clearly show the changes in the tumor
and it is to the point now about a month later starting to regain
pigment around the edges. If you want to see the pictures let me know
and I will forward them.
==================================================================================

So I asked her to remind me what the treatment was:

The Tagamet treatment is for melanomas. You give one Tagamet and one
Benadryl twice a day for three weeks. Vera has pictures of x rays of a
dog with the lungs full of tumors and after the treatment they are gone.
I have used it on Jessie and three small tumors went away. It is
suggested to do it for two weeks twice a year as a preventive. There is
much more information on it on Vera's website. I'll forward the pictures
of J's dog to you.

And here is Vera's website:

So -- check with your doctor. Pay attention to the site about medicine
interaction with the Tagamet. Talk with your doctor. And GOOD LUCK!
