RE: [boxer lovers] Boxer Interest

Your best bet to buy a quality puppy is to go to the ABC website. This is
the American Boxer Association. There is an online puppy application you
can fill out. The club will send it on to member breeders who are planning
litters. The breeders who approve of you will contact you and you can
discuss their lines and health situations. Remember, at the same time, they
will be doing background checks on you as well. probably will do some before
they even call you. they'll be asking you questions and listening to every
response. Be prepared. You ARE being judged. These are, for the most part,
people who consider their puppies family and will want to know they are
going to a good home.

If you are talking to a breeder who is NOT raking you over the coals, you
should wait for the next contact. If they don't care enough to grill you,
they probably don't care enough to breed a good dog.

You ARE going to pay for this dog. The pup will probably be at LEAST $500,
depending on your location and will go up from there. The price will be
determined by where you live, where the dog is bred, the quality of the
lines (you get what you pay for), the health history of the lines and so
forth.

Make SURE you ask for health info and family trees as far as show, service
or working trials. The breeder is EXPECTING these questions. If you don't
ask, they will wonder why you have not done your homework.

This is how I found Mayhem and he is a FABULOUS dog. I went with a show pup
and Mayhem has proved himself very nicely. We are very proud of him. More
than that, he is a part of the family and is currently lounging in the
youngest daughter's bedroom and enjoying a comfy bed of DD's freshly washed
laundry<G>

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Subject: [boxer lovers] Boxer Interest

My interest is learning more about the breed, and finding out about
breeders. Breeder rather than rescue at this time because of health issues,
more specifically heart. The kids lost their father, and I my husband almost
three years ago because of a genetic heart condition. Each child has a 50/50
chance of having it, and I to avoid the same scenario with the family pet.

I also do not want to support puppy mills, and I think this group will be a
source in avoiding a mill.
