When I first got Rufus 7 years ago, I used meetup.com, yahoo groups and even Craig’s List to find LOCAL doxie folks to setup play dates.
You can also visit dog parks and just meet folks. There’s almost ALWAYS a doxie at the parks. ;-)
This is a national message board and it’s fun to share pics, stories and advice but… I believe it’s a MUST to find a LOCAL doxie meetup group. In the absence of finding one, you can create one!! Meetup.com charges but yahoo groups is FREE!
I currently own and moderate LA DOXIES at yahoo groups, but we try to keep our membership to ONLY LOCALS because the main point is our 12 meetups throughout the year in greater LA county. It’s a great group and more like an extended family.
Good luck with your paly dates!!!

Play dates – a great idea!! How do you find people and Doxies near you?

Well… my first doxie (Rufus) will be 8 in August and my new girl, Emily, is 13 weeks today. So I did allow some time to pass between my 1st and 2nd, but I definitely believe doxies do better in pairs.
Having another dog or breed is certainly acceptable but with the dachshund’s unique frame and temperament I really find the best mate for a dachshund is another doxie. I think with big dogs it’s find to mix breeds but with a dachshund with his or her varied limitations, it’s better to play and wrestle with someone equally matched.
We had a greyhound living with us for a few years (which belong to a friend) and the poor greyhound wanted to play so bad with Rufus (my red smooth miniature) but… it just wasn’t going to happen. He was 60-80 pounds and Rufus is a just a mere 11 pounds. Jake (the greyhound) was very playful but honestly I worried that one swat of a paw on Rufus back could result in an injury so they got to play.
Point. You should totally get another doxie for your smooth girl. However, and of course, you have to do what is right for you, your family and living situation. So… if it’s not in the cards to get another doxie for your current one THEN I have two words: PLAY DATES!!!
For the last 7 years I hosted lots of doxie play dates and that’s how I went sooo long without a second one. Don’t underestimate the power of doxie play dates – for the human AND dachshund.
Okay. That’s my 2 cents.
Happy Friday to all.

They are having SO much fun!! This video is dangerous because it makes me want to get another smooth so my smooth girl has someone to play with!
She tries to play with our Yorkie but she pulls his hair which he does not like.
Thanks for sending the link!
