Subject: Concerning doxies in GA from hoarder/breeder
I'm not sure who to send the emails to, but wanted to make sure you are contacted about the situation in Dallas, GA - Paulding County Animal Control. They have had to break up a dachshund breeder/hoarder situation and at present have approx 30 doxies coming into the shelter from surrender. They are hoping they will not have to take them but that the breeder surrenders the rest. Anyway, this is a high kill shelter. If they tie up 30 cages (this shelter is only allowed to put one per cage in most instances) then many that are in there now are destined to die this coming Wed or when their time is up when they euthanize. This shelter will allow rescues to come and get the dogs if they are licensed in the state of GA and if they are on record with the shelter (can fax your info) best for you to call and get the word to them 770-505-1511. They are only taking calls 11 am to 3 pm on all days but Sunday and Wed when they are closed. After getting the recording hit 0 until it says transferring to the operator. Best not to just leave a message because this is a serious situation for the doxies and other dogs in there. I was told about 10 of them are ready to be released to be adopted and they are mini's. Some are not as socialized but you have had experience with this before I am sure. they are scared. I saw one mini black and tan and he/she let me pet him/her when I opened the cage door - I had not seen the others available but there are many.
Hope you can pass this onto whoever in your group in GA can help. The shelter is off of Dallas Acworth Rd and in the Industrial area. The operator can give you full address and details. There is no charge for licensed on record rescues.
Again, 770-505-1511 only 11-3 each day closed Sundays. This is going to be a serious increase for that shelter which is already almost to maximum. I should expect if rescues don't get these dogs or they can't be fostered out many dogs will die.
I am just a concerned doxie owner, I've had 4 in my lifetime and unfortunately can't adopt another one at my age - but hoping I can help them in some way by letting the rescues know. You probably know a lot more rescues than I do so aksing for your help.
If you have already been informed of this crisis sorry for the duplication, but better twice than not at all.
Kim
PS I think their address is 779 Industrial Blvd N. Dallas, GA 30132 but it is best you confirm that with them if doing GPS or map quest.
