[boxer lovers] Re: New puppy

Hi Steve,

You joined a great group. I have a 6 month old boxer, Bella. She's my 2nd boxer. They are very sweet and loyal dogs and love to cuddle. One of the websites I go to for info is Boxer Dog Information Center. Great website and it covers alot of information especially if it's your first boxer. I would also recommend getting a book strictly about boxers. Both boxers I put in puppy training when they were 4 months. Boxers are very smart dogs and catch on really fast. Bella just graduated from puppy school and I plan on putting her in an intermediate class after the holidays. Crate training is a great way to housebreak because they normally won't relieve themselves in their area where they sleep. Bella is fully housebroken now but it took about 3 months. I'm not sure what type of food your feeding your
puppy but my first boxer, Sierra couldn't eat anything with by products in it. They are prone to stomach problems anyway but she would always throw up her food so I switched to Nutro large puppy breed and she never threw up again. When I got Bella, that's what we bought and have never had any problems. Blue Buffalo is another good natural dog food. Hope this helps and have fun with your new addition!

I have owned a American Bulldog in the past so I am used to higher energy dogs. I own a bullmastiff who is 7 years old and completely blind and a 2 year old basset hound are my other 2 dogs. My first big question to anyone on the group is what is the best way to train a boxer? And do I start now or at 10 weeks? Any tips on rules to establish early with this breed besides house training? Any particular books or web sites I should read to further my knowledge on the boxer breed? Any and all info is greatly appreciated and I look forward to enjoying the post in the group.
