OMG….can't believe the VET put the cast on with tape and didn't think about the removal process.  This is a sad/happy story I guess.  I will be glad to chip in but was also wondering if Rosie has been adopted or if you are keeping her forever.  I want to make sure she has a good home and is with someone that loves her.  Please keep us posted; sure hope the limb does not have to be removed but will be glad to just see her alive & happy.

Subject: [AADRdachshundtrain] Rosie's Story [1 Attachment]
   Hi Everyone:
I know there are countless story's similar to Rosie's - unfortunately, it's a cruel reality. However I wanted to share Rosie's with you because it could be educational in a sense.
Rosie is an 8 mos old doxie mix who found herself in a high kill shelter in Miami with an injured leg and possible internal bleeding. She sat in that cold shelter, in a no public viewing area for over a week with little medical attention. Thanks to a wonderful network of people, the Canadian Dachshund Rescue was informed about Rosie and was able to have her pulled, taken to a vet and eventually transported all the way from Miami , FL to Guelph , Ontario , Canada .
Rosie had a fractured leg, she is missing hair on her nose and eyebrow, her ear is ripped in half and she has no tail. A cast was put on her in Florida for her fractured leg and when she arrived in Canada we had her visit our vet immediately for a check up. Although her fracture has healed, when the vet originally put the cast on her leg they used tape. No instruction was given as to the length of time the cast was required to stay on and therefore when our vet removed the cast they discovered that the tape had completely adhered itself to her dead skin. They had no choice put to rip the tape off, taking her skin off with it, completely down to the muscle and in some areas, the bone. This has been excurciatingly painful for, ontop of all she's been through. Her leg is now completely bandaged and must be changed at least three times per day. She visits the vet 3-4 times a week for laser therapy to help her skin regrow. Unfortunately, all of the skin on her inside toe has died and fallen off, leaving nothing but bone. Within the next couple of weeks we will know if the skin is regrowing...if not this toe will have to be amputated. If this also happens with her other toes, there's a chance the entire limb will need to be amputated. Remember, this girl is only 8 months old! I cannot say enough about her personality and what a wonderful little trooper she is! She allows my husband to change her bandage daily without so much as flinching (I can't look so I close my eyes and sing to her). She kisses you like there's no tomorrow, loves having her belly rubbed and rough housing (we keep this to a minimum, but common - she's still a pup) and even sneaks some play time in with our weenies when we're not looking! She hasn't had one accident in the house and sleeps in her crate at night without so much as a peep (however she's recently earned big bed privileges!)

I wanted to share this for a couple of reasons:
1. The power of networking is HUGE! Please share, cross-post, pass along any plea for help you recieve. Although this is a sad story, the alternative could have been even worse!
2. Anything is possible when it comes to transport - Florida to Canada is over 2,500km's (24 hours!)
3. ASK QUESTIONS! If something doesn't seem right when it comes to vetting, speak up!

I know money is tight right now, put we've started a chipin for Rosie and any little bit helps! Please share Rosie's story and her chipin! However, please keep her in your thoughts first and foremost as she continues her uphill battle.
