Re: We got a new doxie today

The humping is a show of dominance. Your male Dachsie is saying, "I was here first and I'm the #1 boss". It would happen even if he was neutered or if he was a female.

Having said that, I would still have your male neutered, not only because it is the # 1 responsible thing to do, it is better for his health. It will also help for any other bad habits that can come from unaltered dogs of any kind., such as peeing on furniture and floors to mark his territory...plus any show of aggression.
Altering them just mellows them out all the way around.

Congratulations on your new little furbaby.

She is the tinest little thing I have ever seen - just 5.25 lbs at 14 months old.  Yep months not weeks.  She is spayed.  We also have a male that is 2 years old, about 12 lbs and not neutered.

He has been super hyper since we got her and wants to hump her.  I take him to my moms about every week and he plays with her female for hours that is also fixed and it doesn't seem to bother him.

Will he get used to her and quit humping her?  We have been thinking of getting him fixed and this just may have made up our minds.

Wendy
