Subject: 2nd Plea URGENT 10 yr old Dachshund Needs Foster or Forever Home by 9/30 Lancaster, PA
To: Me <marcey789@yahoo.com>

Putting out a 2nd plea since I know many of us have been offline due to Hurricane Irene.  Dusty's Mom desperately needs to find him a home or rescue by 9/30, she is moving in with family in Texas due to financial constraints and absolutely cannot take him with her. Please contact me at marcey789@yahoo.com if you can help, and I can put you directly in touch with Dusty's Mom.  Please cross post if you cannot help Dusty!

Basic info on Dusty:
Name of dog?  Dusty
>  Age of dog?  Approximately 10 years old
>  Coat/Color?  Black/Tan
>
>  Size/Weight?    16 pounds
>  Is he/she housebroken?  yes, but he marks his territory
>
>  Is he/she dominant?  yes
>
>  Good with other dogs?  yes
>
>  Good with  cats?  no
>  Good with kids?  If yes, how young?  no - not good with kids or
strangers
>
>  Crate trained?  I have tried to crate train him. The person I got him
from said it was probably used as a punishment
>  Overall  health condition?  Good.
>  Up to date on shots?  Will be
>  Ever have back  problems?  No never had back problems
>  Any other health problems?  No - he is in good health
>
>  Neutered/Spayed?  Neutered
>
>  Has he/she ever bitten anyone?  If so, please describe the incident in
>detail.
He bit my niece on the leg and my granddaughter. They tried to bend down
>and pet him when they first came in the house. That is a big no-no.
>
>  He is weird with strangers. If you let him go and not pay any attention
to
>him and then let him warm up to you, he's ok. He doesn't like men. The lady
>that I got him from said he was abused and it must have been a male. If you
>put him in a crate he starts shaking and usually pees and poops in the cage
>and that the crate must have used to punish him.  He would be good around a
>woman who doesn't have a lot of company, no children and was home with him.

The above information is from when Dusty's Mom first got divorced last year and thought she may have to give him up, here's an update I received recently:

I don't know if you remember me, but last year I was looking for help with my dachshund Dusty. I found a place that was pet friendly to live; however, I can't make it on my own and am moving to TX the end of September. My daughter says that I can't have Dusty there. Would you be able to help me? I am so upset about this. I don't want to give him up because he is 10 years old. Below is all of the information that I had sent you before. He would be better with an older woman with no children and who doesn't have a lot of company. He is getting a lot better, but still has separation anxiety. I can put him in a crate, but I gave him acepromazine.
