Please see below for some info about Sampson who is located in Jacksonville, NC. He is up to date on shots & currently taking meds for his hw. He still needs to be neutered. I am willing to sponsor his neuter and continued hw treatment if he needs it. If he goes to the shelter he will be dead. I used to live in this town and that absolutely will happen.

If you can help please let me know ASAP and I will put you in touch with the person in NC.

Sampson's story....today I was picking up a Chi from the shelter when I got home the shelter phoned me and told me of the lady that was standing there with Sampson.  Well she convinced her to go home in hopes that I may be able to help her and got her number for me.  I called her this evening and come to find Sampson was at the shelter a few months ago.  In fact I think this was one Susie or someone wanted to make sure he got out and found he got adopted.  Anyways this family has taken good care of him but they have three children under 6 and not doing well with them.  The mother admits she probably should have been more Dachshund savvy but wanted to save him when he they saw him at the shelter and didn't realize he didn't do well with kids.  In his defense when they went to get him vetted and neutered they found he had heartworms I am sure he didn't and don't feel well at all.  The vet put him on heartworm prevention so he could gain some weight and then see if they could do heartworm treatment.  He is so very thin still but the owner says he was total skin and bones when they got him out and has gained five pounds since they have had him.  She loves the dog dearly but can not keep him.  She has vetted him besides neuter and she is going to keep his follow  up appointment for Monday and has all his vet records.  She genuily feels awful but her husband is deployed and she just can't watch every minute of the day if the kids are messing with Sampson.  She says he is such a sweet boy but does not do well with the little one's.  I pretty much begged her to see if she could keep him for a few days to give me some time to find a rescue.  Can anyone help this sweet boy?  She will have to tell the shelter he is heartworm positive and they will euthanize him next euth day.  What a hard road he has had and it's unfortunate she is doing this to him because she does seem to care for him very much.  Let me know if you can help....Thank you

Vet said three more months of pill treatment and a re-check and Sampson should be fine.  She did purchase three more months of whatever he is taking to finish his treatment too.  However I do know that she cannot keep him with the small children in the house and I am in fear she will bring him to the shelter.
