Yup. They often don't know their own strength. Sadly, I will probably go to
lap dogs when I lose my current boxers for safety reasons. I have health
issues and my Boxers have knocked me down more than once. If it happens in
the future, say, 10 years down the road, it could be catastrophic. So,
sadly, I'll likely have to give up my Boxers. I hate that. but, it is one
thing we must always remember and be aware of when we chose an animal to
share our lives.
Now I have to find a smaller dog as great as a Boxer. That will not be
easy<sigh> but, I have some time!<G>

Subject: [boxer lovers] Re: Boxer puppy
My 90 lb big guy has come charging into the house and nearly taken out my
knees on several occasions. I've learned to stand behind the door. The worst
injury happened after we first rescued him and we were tying him when we
went outside until we could determine if he'd take off. One day, I'd just
got the hook onto his collar. He saw a chipmunk and bolted. I couldn't move
fast enough to get the rope from around my ankle. This was the result (not
for the weak of heart :-)

Lesson learned. They're big pups and don't always know their own power. I
could tell he felt really bad and just didn't understand why mom was
screaming.

allow bad habits to start . like chewing on you, for example. What is cute
in a puppy and maybe acceptable with a small poodle (because they can't hurt
you as much or be as destructive) is not even a little acceptable in a dog
hitting 50 or more pounds with a lot of muscle mass behind them.
