Not sure how big he'll get. He's my first boxer amd my first large dog. But I am
hooked. Always had miniature schnauzers. He's as big now as every full
grown boxer that we've encountered except one. He's definitely still
growing. He's 23 inches to shoulder and was 21 inches six weeks ago. I weigh him
on the second of every month whem I do heartworm and flea and tick application.
So I will have an accurate weight in the a.m.
He's definitely NOT ribby, but definitely checking for more food. Then
again even with the dog food he's never been a finicky eater.

How big do you think Moe might get? Do you see that he's still growing? Have you
been keeping good measurements not just guessing?
If you think he's still growing, and if you think he currently needs more food
(I.e. He starts to look ribby), then use 76 or 80 lbs to figure from. And make
sure your actually weigh! At these numbers even a couple of ounces of food makes
a difference.
Don't use his looking for more food as a guide. Coop has taken to raw so well,
I'd worry I'd I had cows walking through the yard;-)

If I may ask yet another question about raw feeding? Just started my 10 month
old neutered male Fat Moe on a natural diet. He loves it and I love the reduced
amount of waste. I have been giving him a little over 2 lbs. of meat a
day. He weighs 72 lbs. So roughly 3%. He's not fat just a name I
picked from a movie. Given his age should I remain with the 3% or use
the other formula suggested: which I have forgotten.???
Thanx Noah

Ah. Growth Spurts.
My Lovely Peter grew to a big solid 90lbs. He was very well proportioned so you
didn't realize how big he was until you saw him with another boxer. Meg is such
a dainty looking girl (but 52lbs) she looked like a puppy next to him.
He would wake up from an overnight growth spurt. I'd know he had one because his
left ear would literally be hanging over his eye. During the day it would slowly
move back into place (he'd "grow" into it). At those timed he ate like a
teenaged boy. Anything. Everything. All the time. When those slowed down, so did
his eating.
Your baby may not be quite that blatant about his growth spurts, but I just
found that giving enough food the puppy might leave a bit was a good way to know
they were getting what they needed.
Most dogs with plenty of food in their life don't overeat. Oh sure offer bad
junk food and they'll get into the snack habit. But generally they're much
better than humans at "portion control."

Over the years I as well as people who have purchased puppies have worried about
how much puppies eat and that they look too thin. I am not as bad as I used to
be about it. The biggest problem are the growing spurts. All of a sudden they
will grow taller and look thinner. They will not have lost weight but they will
look like they have. This goes on until they are 18 months old and sometimes
even older. Kids also go through spurts of growth too. They also have times of
not wanting to eat as much, and then times when your can't fill them up.
As long as your Vet says not to worry, I wouldn't.

more. When that happens, give him more.

> > Hello!
> > We need some advice if anyone has had dealings with this
before.
> > My puppy boxer is 10 wks old and we are feeding him puppy
chow, the bag says 3 cups per day, and some days he eats only one cup some days
2 cups to 2 1/2 cups. @ 8 wks he was 9.2 LBS and when we went back to the vet at
10 wks he only gained 1 LB. the vet says he is ok and didn't seem concerned, Rex
my puppy is active and drinks water. Has anyone else delt with this before, I
have a 3 y/o female and as a puppy she ate 3 cups per day, and my male that
passed away of cancer he also as a puppy ate 3 cups per day. Need some help.
> >
> > Thanks Ryan and Vaness
