PLEASE CROSS POST CHIP-IN FOR FUNDS FOR SURGERY TO SAVE OTTO U P D A T E http://friendofclintoncounty.chipin.com/otto-the-doxie-needs-surgery
We are pretty anxious to schedule Otto's surgery -- and get him on the road to feeling good and being energetic and healthy – but can't do it without your help.
We have only raised 28% of our goal for funds needed… Please continue to cross-post this chip-in. Otto REALLY needs this … and SOON Otto Update Otto's skin is slowly improving. He is receiving 2 medicated baths per week and is on ketoconozole and cephalexin. He still smells yucky, but it's not as bad as it was – and a lot less scaly! He's pretty smart – as soon as he learns where his pills are hidden, he won't take that treat ever again. American cheese, cream cheese, peanut butter, pill pockets – he's done with them. Now we're using plain donut holes to hide pills – but it's working! Otto developed a cold which further hinders his breathing. He is struggling and can only walk a few yards before having to sit and catch his breath. He relaxes comfortably in his cushy bed and eats 3 small meals a day. He gets along with all the dogs at my house and has never soiled his area. He really likes affection and hearing "You're a Good Boy, Little Man!" :O)

Otto came to Clinton County OH pound after a cruelty charge against his owner. A rescue offered to take him even with his skin condition, but after being pulled from Clinton County Pound, Wilmington, OH, the vet discovered that Otto has a herniated diaphragm in addition to skin problems. He has been seen by 2 vets to get a 2nd opinion. Surgery and recovery costs, including treatment of his chronic skin condition, will be $2,000-$2,200. The rescue could not afford the additional costs for repair of the diaphragm.
The hole in Otto's diaphragm may be congenital or a result of trauma, but we are not able to determine the exact cause. It is large enough that some organs have passed thru and are now residing in his chest - xrays reveal the liver and some intestines are currently misplaced. It is possible that the hole could continue to tear and cause more damage. He is already having trouble breathing.
Rather than euthanize this 3-4 year old friendly boy, our volunteer group is trying to raise enough funds to clear his skin issues and then allow him to have surgery to repair the hernia.
If you are able to make a contribution toward Otto's care and surgery, it will help save his life. Contributions can be made via paypal at: FriendofClintonCounty@yahoo.com (at yahoo.com)
Please send funds from the "personal" tab so as not to incur paypal fees. Funds need to be raised in advance of surgery and the vet is not able to accept contributions to hold, which is why we are asking for contributions be made via paypal.
We will be happy to supply vetting details - including the x-ray taken 5/31 of Otto's torn diaphragm (the x-ray is too large to post here).

Otto is still homeless ... here's what else he needs: - Temporary foster care in the greater-Columbus, OH area to help him recover from chronic skin infection (NOT mange)
- A reputable rescue who will take Otto into their program, prepare him for finding a forever home and place him with a family that he can call his own.
OTTO THANKS YOU IN ADVANCE!
