Not unusual. remember that nutrition classes for vets consist of one class
conducted by dog food companies. They will, for the most part, tell you you
will kill your dog if you feed raw. I wonder how all those dogs survive in
the wild? I wonder how all those pet dogs survived before WWII when dog food
was invented?
Just smile and nod. As beautiful as my dogs are, even prize winning in
Mayhem's case, I still have one vet in my practice who swears it is all
surface. He only LOOKS good but he is dying inside cause I am feeding him
raw. That one day he will just fall over dead from all the horrible raw food
he has been happily and healthily eating since he was 10 weeks old.
According to this vet, sometimes you can feed a dog really bad for him food
and he can still BE a prize winning, beautiful example of his breed! nothing
will ever break this man's faith that raw food is poison and eventually my
lovely Mayhem will pay the price for my ignorance.<sigh> it's like arguing
with a religious zealot who KNOWS he and only he knows the intentions of God
and everyone who does not agree with him is going to hell.
These are people it is, literally, impossible to convince. You have two
choices. Change vets or just smile and nod and keep on feeding your dog what
keeps them happy and healthy.
Good luck.

I have 2 vets too, the first and original one totally iffy about it, he sent
the vet tech to talk to me about not to feed my dog raw said I will kill
her, after I've been feeding raw, took her to see him just to weight her, he
actually complimented how good she looks but he still doesn't support raw. I
can see her energy level changed when I switched her to raw, her coat is
shiny and full of muscle.
