Good Morning everyone,
I know that there has been a lot of talk going on here often about raw feeding and I am some what hesitant to even write this as I am sure not only are some people tired of talking about it but others may even be tired of hearing about it. I am just kind of stuck right now and not sure what to do.
We have two Boxers Conan is almost 14 months and Karleigh just turned 6 months. At first I thought Conan was just going to be (excuse the term I love my dogs) a pain in the behind with his eating habits due to the fact that since day one (we got him at 8 weeks) he will eat about a third to a quarter of the bag of dog food and then he is what we call " too good for his food". His weight goes up and down as a result of this and of course it is not usually nice each time we switch his food. Well I am wondering if they are not trying to tell us something because now Karleigh is doing the same thing. Not sure if it is a learned thing for her or not but we have tried too many dry dog foods to even count from puppy chow to iams to chicken soup for the puppy's soul (and the list goes on).
I have spoken to the vet on several different visits( we have been to plenty due to being a military family) and they all seem to be on the same page with the idea that as long as they are maintaining their weights there is no problems. Well they are but that does not seem like it can be too healthy to me. I had asked this last vet what he thought about raw feeding and he was totally against it. ( I know that in many cases it is a matter of opinion) although I see a lot of positive things here when the conversation comes up. I guess I just don't know where to begin and despite the fact that I have often seen people say they will not get the bacteria and what not because their digestive systems are built to handle this kind of stuff I am still a bit nervous.
All of that being said I guess I don't have a list of questions really as much as that I would like for someone to talk to me like I am four :) and maybe also lead me in the direction of some statistics that are real and not just someones opinion on the web if that makes sense. Also I guess I do have one specific question and that would be I have seen many times to start with chicken and I wonder about that because I have always been told " NO DO NOT FEED CHICKEN BONES" so do they just get the meat?
ALL advice will be taken with an open mind and greatly appreciated my not only me but my babies as well I think.
Thanks so much,
Jamie
